Art galleries in Southwest Florida display works of local, regional and international artists and artisans from contemporary to traditional, covering a wide range of media, styles and techniques. The following listing is a sample of what the area art scene has to offer.

Listings are only as current as information provided to us by the galleries. As hours tend to fluctuate, it's wise to phone ahead. Note: Submissions for this column must be received by noon Monday for publication in the coming Friday's Showcase.

OPENINGS AND EVENTS

Adams Galleries offers about 2,000 original oil paintings which include waterscapes, Italian landscapes, traditional art, tropical scenes and Old World and contemporary subjects. The gallery is featuring new contemporary multi-media works by numerous artists including Joanne Rafferty until March 1. Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Area Arts continues its lecture series from 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 15 when Connie Bransilver discusses "Artand the Camera." Cost is $20. An exhibition of works by modern day Mexican master Uriel Parker runs from Feb. 17 through 20. ARTgalleryflorida is featuring an exhit of acrylics by Sandi Badash, oils by Katie Burgess and acrylics, watercolors and mixed media by artist in residence Lee Dowling through Feb. 18. Darvish Collection Gallery of Fine Art, featuring realism and impressionism; fine European and American oil paintings, 19th century to present, is presenting an exhibition of new works by American impressionist Troy Acker through Feb. 17. Eleven Artists on Shirley Street present a studio tour and exhibition from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 12. The event features works from the following studios and artists: Art Studio on Shirley (Barbara Groenteman, Karen Stone and Renate Nothmann), Village Art Group (Arnold Altshuler, Andree Beaudin Richard, John Pateros), Studio Blue (Jane Borchers, Mally Khorasantchi and Terri Wegman), Mosaic Art Studio (Brunilda Razij) and Spitzmiller Sports Art Studio (Walt Spitzmiller). Gardner-Colby Gallery I is featuring "Figuratively Speaking," a group show with oil paintings by Todd Williams and C.W. Munday and sculpture by Siri Hollander and Walter Horak through Feb. 20. Guess-Fisher Gallery, Etc. will host a meet-the-artists event from 4 to 8 p.m. Feb. 13 when its gallery artists, Phil Fisher, Marty Lieberman and Natalie Guess, will be on hand to discuss their work. Malenda Trick Gallery and Studio, which features impressionist originals and prints, is holding special opening receptions from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays through March 31 to introduce the business to the public. Marianne Friedland Gallery has introduced an exhibit of new paintings by prominent landscape painter Wolf Kahn. The show can be seen through Feb. 28. Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Location: 359 Broad Ave. S. 262-3484.

Rick Moore Fine Art will introduce its 13th annual show featuring impressionist painter Henrietta Milan with meet-the-artist receptions from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 11 and from noon to 3 p.m. Feb. 12. Weatherburn Gallery, European, North American, Russian and Chinese. Two shows are on view through Feb. 17. One features works by master realist and Oriental figurative painter Christopher Zhang. The second exhibit showcases works by American impressionist painter David Hettinger, who is known for his elegant room interiors. Area Arts continues its lecture series from 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 23 when Vicki Wagoner discusses "Hearts, Hands & Healthing Art." Cost is $20. An exhibition of works by acclaimed painter, writer and scientist Tina York will be featured Feb. 24 through 27. Atelier Lizio Naples is continuing its art history video series with "Picasso, Braque: The Cubist Revolution," featuring Dottie Magen, at 7 p.m. Feb. 21; fee is $15. Eckert Fine Art will present an evening with sculptor Jonas Stirner, an artist living and working on Robert Rauschenberg's Captiva Island compound, from 6 to 8 p.m. March 10. His metal sculptures combine traditions of the early constructivist sculptors with the freshness of an artist who enjoys living with nature. Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.
